ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A former construction worker charged with killing a prostitute in North Carolina is suspected in the slayings of seven Florida women over 12 years.

William Darrell Lindsey, 61, will be charged within the next 10 days in the North Florida murders, which began in 1983 and continued through 1995, authorities said at a news conference Friday.

``We've been able to connect Mr. Lindsey with each of these women and have determined he was responsible for their murders,'' St. Johns County Sheriff Neil Perry said.
