It is generally accepted pop wisdom that the second album isalways the hardest to make and rarely are they as good as the firstor, if a band gets that far, the third.
That wasn't the case with Canned Heat.
Their debut album had been fairly well received but was littlemore than versions of well-worn blues standards.
The second album, Boogie With Canned Heat, was in a completelydifferent class. It could have almost been a different band. It notonly hit the American album charts but it stayed there for a wholeyear and in the UK it got to number five in the album charts.
It also gave us one of the most distinctive theme tunes to the60s.
